Porthcawl | About the Area
Located on the south coast of Wales, approximately 25 miles west of Cardiff, the town of Porthcawl has a varied history. Originally developed as a port for the export of coal from the Welsh valleys, the town expanded rapidly as the demand for coal rocketed in the 19th century. Gradually, as other ports became more prominent, trade was replaced by a vibrant tourist industry. Taking advantage of the stunning views over the Bristol Channel, visitors flocked to Porthcawl to stroll along the promenade and enjoy the sandy beaches. Although in recent years the area's tourism industry has declined, an investment programme is afoot to restore Porthcawl to its former glory.
Sandwiched between Cardiff and Swansea, and within close reach of the M4 motorway, Porthcawl is ideally placed for those wishing to access South Wales' major cities, towns and coastal areas.
