Pencoed About

About Pencoed | Pencoed Information | Pencoed Education

Pencoed is a small town in the borough of Bridgend, which is situated on the River Ewenny, in the depths of the Ewenny valley. It is believed that where the town stands today, was originally where the foundation of a Norman castle stood.

The town of Pencoed only really developed as a town during the growth of the coal mining industry in the late 19th Century.  Today the coalmines have all closed down but its population has continued to grow despite the decline in industry, due to the building of Earlswood Parc. It is here that Bocam Business Park is situated, as well as many newly built homes and other local facilities.

Pencoed is made up of four small hamlets that over the years have joined together. There are numerous number of streams that run through Pencoed’s town centre, as well as two main rivers, the Ewenny Fawr and the Ewenny Fach.

It is also home to a local town community hall, schools, bars and a town shopping centre. For commuting, Pencoed is located on the rail network and trains from Pencoed Railway Station can be caught to a number of destinations including Bridgend, London Paddington, Swansea and Cardiff.
