Ogmore | About the Area
The village of Ogmore is located across the estuary from Porthcawl and Merthyr Mawr and at the mouth of the River Ogmore, which is where the name, Ogmore originates from.
This seaside village, also known as Ogmore by Sea, is close to Ogmore Castle, the Pelican Inn and a collection of local tearooms, which overlook the river. Further down from here are a collection of Stepping Stones, which take you over to Merthyr Mawr.
The beaches of Ogmore look out to the Bristol Channel and onto Tusker Rock. The popular sandy beach is served by a car park and has a collection of shops nearby. The nearest place for local services and amenities would be Porthcawl.
Built by the Normans, Ogmore Castle was constructed in 1116 by William de Londres when the Normans invaded Wales. The castle over looks the south bank of the River Evenny just before its confluence with the River Ogmore. It had a multiple of uses including a prison and a court and today it is seen as an iconic landmark of Ogmore.
Transport links
Ogmore is located on the B4265, which leads to the A48 and A473. These A roads connect Ogmore to the M4, which leads to Swansea and Cardiff.
