About Bridgend Property
The most famous Bridgend property is the Norman castle, Newcastle Castle, which overlooks the town and was built by Robert Fitzhamon in 1106 as part of his defensive triangle for the borough.
Historically, the first Bridgend Property dates back to Roman times, but there are several prehistoric burial mounds that have been discovered in the area. Developing at a ford in the River Ogmore, flooding in the past has been an issue for the town of Bridgend. During the 1960’s a flood barrier was constructed and since then, the town has not flooded.
When coal was discovered in Wales during the 17th century, this had a huge impact on the town. Llynfi Valley was the first industrialized coal field in the area. Bridgend however remained an important agricultural town until the 20th century.
Even after the war, Bridgend was still a large market town, but it was when the M4 motorway was extended, that Bridgend really started to flourish. Companies like Sony and Ford moved into the area and set up in Bridgend’s new Industrial Estate during the 1970’s. Housing development plans were put into place and a new link road was built to connect the town centre directly with the M4 motorway.
Bridgend is now seen as a commuting hub for the nearby steel works just outside Port Talbot. It is also close to Cardiff Airport and is served by a good railway service to London Paddington and Cardiff, making a Bridgend Property an ideal choice if you are looking to commute to the capitals.
As part of the regeneration program, Bridgend is now home to the Designer Outlet Shopping Centre, McArthur Glen, which is home to many leading brand stores, selling designer items at reduced prices.
